Magnolia Pictures To Release 'Diary of A Tired Black Man' In 2009

Not since the Jamaican gangster film 'Shottas' has an independent film genearated so much buzz around the web, and the streets. You can't find anyone who hasn't heard of the film. Here's a film that has played at various festivals, bootleged across the country and is still being talked about after being shown for over 2 years now.

Finally, Magnolia Pictures has decided to pick up the right to 'Diary of A Tired Black Man', which was written, directed, edited, scored and produced by Tim Alexander, and will release the film in February 2009.

The film follows the love life of a successful man (Jimmy Jean-Louise - NBC's Heroes, Mo'Nique's Phat Girlz) as he attempts to navigate 'stereotypes, resentment and anger harbored by black women towards the men in their community.' The provocative film is billed with the tagline, 'Now it's black men's turn to exhale.'

Here's the three minute trailer that got the film off the ground and started the buzz

Well, based on the clip, he has every right to be tired. If he was my man and did all of that, he wouldn't hear a peep out of me, except dinner is ready. rofl1.gif

Seriously though, my problem isn't with interracial dating or marriages generally. I have a problem with it when any black man thinks that black women aren't good enough just because we're black or puts us down and exalt white women as princesses, who are better than black women and need a strong black man to protect them. My first thought is, "if he thinks that badly of black women, what does he think about his mother?" It just highlights a social ill in this country that says black women are nothing and will never be worth anything.

There are black men and women who are bitter and angry for various reasons and I think that needs to be worked out before entering in a relationship, regardless of the race of the other person but that's not happening. It appears that the anger and bitterness is being as fuel in making decisions to date outside of our race and bad mouthing each other on the way to the other side. That's not healthy. no.gif

*edit: so i mentioned that to say "it's not just a black thing by any stretch. every community goes through it amongst themselves. we're just more sensitive to it here..."

But what about the black women (and I know some) who feel the same way? I know so many black women who feel all black men are dogs and because of that dates white men who at times treats them like second class citizens but they still talk about how great white men are. It goes both ways, and to be honest it bothers me to no end.

Great Movie, I've already seen a filming of it. (by way of bootleg and showing in dc) #1 I don't know how much editing they may have done since someone bought the rights to the film. But from the bootleg version I have , The clip is kind of misleading. It has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the white girl at all or interracial relationships [*****SPOILER****** In the end he doesn't settle down with a white woman.*****End of Spoiler*****]
Again back to the point it's not about race or interracial relationships , it's basically speaking on ABS (angry black woman syndrome) , Basically talking about how many sista's has gone through so much and was taught throughout life whether it be verbally or shown through life examples that men are no good or that they need to be "strong" to the point they don't know how to treat a man or treat him like crap. Let me say it another way, they've dealt with so many no-good brotha's so long , when they finally get a good black man who won't physically abuse them, taking care of business in the house, Loving , supportive and again all out good man. Most women don't know how to turn it off and put those bad experiences to rest. Basically how many women whine about how there's no good black men out there but when they luck up and get one they don't know how to treat him. Game got so twisted you'll hear many women say crap like he's "weak" or "too nice" . Then when that man reaches his boiling point and leaves cause he can't take the drama or your constant bickering anymore, "oh he couldn't handle a "STRONG" black woman". So it explores again the meaning of "strong" , cause in this day and age it seems as if a Strong black woman = "I can out argue you" , "I make just as much or more money than you" , I can out-man you and be louder than you and make you look stupid in public", "I wear the pants in the relationship". It's sort of a movie/documentary. Sort of like a michael moore film.
Basically FOR ONCE we see the other side of what Good black men go through, (don't belive the hype there're many of us out here) , Women have so many movies pointing the fingers showing how it's always the guys fault, Even movies made by men (cough , cough tyler perry) and very few that show the other side. I FULLY RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE and can't wait until it comes out. I like it so much i'll go support it and see it again (even though I already have a great bootleg copy, oops.gif did I say that out loud) lol My only hope is that the people who bought the rights didn't do a heavy splice job and totally change the movie.
